Brighton Rubyists meet up

Last night I got to the latest Brighton Rubyists meet up and saw a talk by Dan Glegg on the rise of the one-person business, and how Ruby / Ruby on Rails is very useful for small development companies, including examples from the creation of Tails, one of his apps. Kudos to James for getting the meeting running, especially when all equipment seemed to be against him.

Met several interesting people there, some of which will hopefully come to the Farm at some point. Hello to Ian of Show Me Do - a startup hosting videos of tutorials / people doing things, which fits very well with something I was thinking of doing with my Volkswagen Beetle site, which could be very handy.

Lunch with new media lot

Yesterday I went to lunch with a set of local new media people, partly to meet up and partly to meet Jim from Linden Labs, who was down in the area. Big thanks to Andy for organising it, and showing us around the swanky ClearLeft offices afterwards.

Hullo to everyone I met, including Jay, Jon, Josh, and the non-J's: Richard, Dave, Roger, Aral and Rob. Apologies to the people I haven't mentioned / who's names I have forgotten.

It was a great lunch, and nice to meet up with some people I haven't seen for a year or so. There's lots (and lots) of stuff happening in Brighton and it was good to hear about some of the stuff I wasn't aware of. It's a shame I'm going to miss Jay's talk on using Amazon EC2 at BarCamp London this weekend, it sounds very interesting. Hopefully he'll re-use it as a Skillswap now that's getting going again.
